Why does Hedroom have no Free RAM button?

Because a button like that does not help. It makes macOS throw away cached files, and your apps then reread them from disk. Your Mac gets slower for a while, not faster. Hedroom looks at memory pressure and swap instead, finds the specific app that is the cause, and asks before it does anything. Our guide Why RAM cleaners make Macs slower has the details and a way to test it yourself.

Does it need my password?

Not to set up or to use almost everything. Hedroom runs as a normal app. Only fan curves and raising the GPU memory limit need a small helper, which requires approval in System Settings › General › Login Items. Hedroom asks only when you turn one of those on.

Does it work on Intel Macs?

No. Hedroom is for Apple Silicon Macs (M1 and later) running macOS 15 Sequoia or later. Its measurements and fixes are built around how Apple Silicon handles memory and cores.

Is my data sent anywhere?

App names, usage, history and receipts stay on your Mac. Hedroom only goes online to check your license once you have one, to look for updates, to download the signed process library about once a week (it sends nothing), and to send feedback when you press Send. The helper and the browser extension add no network calls. It has no analytics or tracking. The full list is on the privacy page.

Can I buy Pro or start the trial today?

Not yet. Checkout opens when the first signed build is published, because the 7-day trial starts the moment you pay. The waitlist emails you once, when it is ready. The free features need no card and no account.

Can I have the free trial more than once?

The free trial is for first-time customers. If you have already had a trial with the same email address or the same card, the first payment is taken at once. Cancelling in time is still free: the trial costs nothing when you cancel before it ends.

What happens after the trial?

The Pro trial lasts 7 days, starts at checkout, needs a card, and includes everything in Pro. Cancel before it ends in the billing portal and you pay nothing. If you do not, the plan starts. Without Pro, monitoring, explanations, alerts and the storage scan stay free forever, and need no card or account. Pro adds fixes, rules, receipts and storage cleaning. See pricing.

How do refunds work?

30 days from a payment, no questions. A full refund ends Pro on that license; a partial refund does not. Email support@hedroom.app with the email address you bought with. Payments are handled by Stripe, who also send your receipt. To stop future payments, cancel in the billing portal. See refunds and cancelling.

Can I use one license on more than one Mac?

A plan covers 1, 2 or 5 Macs, depending on the one you pick. You can move the license to a new Mac from the license screen in Hedroom, or see Move your license. Deactivating and moving share a limit of 5 a day for each license key.

Is Pro a subscription?

Yes. Pro is billed every year, or every month on the 1 Mac monthly plan, and renews until you cancel. Cancelling takes a minute on Manage your subscription, and Pro keeps working until the period you paid for ends. The free features are not part of it and stay free.

Why does the browser extension not show per-tab memory?

Chrome has no stable way for an extension to read per-tab memory, and Hedroom will not show a number it cannot stand behind. The extension shows the whole browser's memory, measured by the Mac app and marked as an estimate, plus tab states. It never sends tab titles or URLs anywhere.

Why would Hedroom ask for Full Disk Access?

Only if you turn on cleaning of iPhone and iPad backups or Mail downloads. macOS protects those folders. Without access those rows say "Needs Full Disk Access" and everything else works. Hedroom never asks for it during setup.

Can Hedroom quit or pause any app?

No. It never pauses or demotes anything signed by Apple, and rules never touch it. The one exception is an Apple app you use yourself, like Xcode, which you can relaunch or quit with a click. It skips the app you are using right now, apps that are on a call or playing audio, backup apps while a backup runs, and any app you put on your never-touch list. Quitting always asks first, and force quit needs a second confirmation. Paused apps resume on their own, within 60 minutes at most.

Does Hedroom ever delete anything?

Not without your explicit permission each time. Cleanup moves files to the Trash, and you can put them back. Removing them for good, by emptying what Hedroom moved, needs a separate confirmation every time. Rules and other automatic actions can never delete files. Startup items are turned off, never deleted.

Why does fan control need admin approval?

Setting a fan speed is something only a program with admin rights can do. So Hedroom has a small helper for it, and macOS asks you to allow it in System Settings › General › Login Items. The helper can only set fan speeds, read sensors and set the GPU memory limit. It runs no programs, takes no file paths and has no network code. Fans go back to automatic when Hedroom quits or stops answering. See Security.

Which Macs can Hedroom control the fans on?

MacBook Pro only. A MacBook Air has no fans, and other Macs keep their fans on automatic. On a Mac whose fans cannot be forced, Hedroom says so and leaves them automatic. Hedroom does not claim a temperature or noise result for any curve; you see the live readings and decide.

Does Hedroom interfere with Time Machine or other backups?

No. Hedroom does not back anything up and does not touch your backups, except that cleanup can list iPhone and iPad backups if you give it Full Disk Access, and only moves ones you pick to the Trash. It checks whether a backup is running, and it will not pause, demote or quit a backup app such as Time Machine, Backblaze or Arq while one runs. If it cannot tell, a click asks you first and a rule does nothing.

What happens if Hedroom crashes while an app is paused?

The app resumes. When Hedroom quits it resumes everything it paused. If it crashes or is force quit, a small guard process started with every pause notices that Hedroom is gone and resumes the app. In any case a paused app resumes within 60 minutes at most, and as soon as you switch to it.

Is it safe to turn off startup items?

Turning an item off renames its file so it does not start at your next login. Nothing is deleted, nothing running is stopped, and turning it on puts the name back. Hedroom never lists Apple's own items. If you are not sure about one, leave it on.

What if a fix does nothing?

The receipt says "No measurable effect." Hedroom does not take credit for changes it cannot measure, and when other apps changed too much at the same time, the receipt says so instead.

What does it cost?

Monitoring and explanations are free. Pro is a subscription, from $31.95 a year, or $7.95 a month (planned prices that may change before release), with a 7-day free trial. See pricing.
