Terms of use and license

Draft, not yet in force. Have a lawyer review this before launch. It is written in plain words so that you can read it, and it is not yet in force. Hedroom has not launched, and nothing here can be accepted until it does.

These terms say what you may do with Hedroom, what we promise, and what we do not. Short version: you can use it on your own Macs, try Pro first, cancel any time, get your money back within 30 days, and we are not responsible for what you do with a tool that can pause apps and move files.

1. Who we are

Hedroom is made by Pointerflow LLC ("we", "us"). You are "you", the person who installs or uses Hedroom. Questions about these terms: legal@hedroom.app.

2. What you are buying

  • A subscription to Hedroom Pro. Pro is a subscription, billed every year, or every month on the 1 Mac monthly plan. It gives you the Pro features (fixes, rules, new receipts, storage cleaning and the tools listed on the pricing page) and every update released while it is active.
  • A personal license. Your subscription comes with a license key. The key lets you use Hedroom on the number of Macs your plan covers (1 Mac, 2 Macs, 5 Macs) that you own or use personally. You can move the key to a new Mac from the license screen in Hedroom, which frees a slot.
  • The price. 1 Mac $31.95 a year, 2 Macs $51.15 a year, 5 Macs $102.35 a year, or 1 Mac $7.95 a month. These prices are planned and may change before release. The price at checkout is the one that applies, and it does not change during the period you have paid for.
  • Ownership. You get a license to use Hedroom, not ownership of it. We keep the rights in the software, its name and its process library. Open-source parts remain under their own licenses, listed on the open-source page.
  • The free features. Monitoring, explanations, alerts, the storage scan and the other free features need no subscription, no card and no account.

For counsel: whether business use needs a different license is not settled here. Whether a change of price applies at renewal, and the notice for it, are to be set with counsel.

3. The free trial

Pro starts with a 7-day free trial. The trial starts when you start checkout and finish it, and it needs a card. It includes everything in Pro. If you cancel before the 7 days end, you are not charged. If you do not cancel, the card is charged when the trial ends and the subscription begins. If the card cannot be charged, or no card is on file when the trial ends, the subscription ends and Pro stops. Without Pro, monitoring, explanations, alerts and the storage scan stay free. Fixes, rules, new receipts and storage cleaning need Pro.

One free trial per person. The free trial is for first-time customers. If you have already had a trial with the same email address or the same card, the first payment is taken at once.

Checkout is not open yet. Checkout opens when the first signed build is published, because the 7-day trial starts the moment you pay.

4. Payment, renewal and cancelling

  • Stripe processes payments. Stripe takes your card, sends your receipt and shows the invoice. Their terms and privacy policy apply to the payment. We never see your card number. Stripe is the payment processor, not the seller of record: we, Pointerflow LLC, are the seller.
  • Automatic renewal. Your subscription renews at the end of each period (a year, or a month) and the card is charged again, until you cancel. Stripe or we may email you before a renewal where the law asks for it.
  • Cancelling. You can cancel at any time on the billing page with your license key. Cancelling stops the next renewal. Pro keeps working until the end of the period you have paid for. After that, the Mac goes back to the free features and your data stays.
  • Failed payments. If a renewal fails, Stripe retries it for a time. We keep Pro on for a short grace period, then it stops until the payment goes through.
  • Taxes. Where sales tax or VAT applies, checkout shows it before you pay and the invoice lists it. You are responsible for any tax that is not collected at checkout and that the law of your country asks you to pay yourself.

After you enter the key, Hedroom checks it with our license service about every 7 days. If your Mac is offline, Pro keeps working for 30 days after the last successful check. What is sent is listed on the privacy page.

5. Refunds

You can ask for a refund within 30 days of a payment, without giving a reason. How to ask is on the refunds page. A full refund ends Pro on that license. A partial refund does not.

6. What you agree to

Please do not:

  • use one license on more Macs than your plan covers, or give, sell or publish your license key;
  • work around or remove the license check, or the trial;
  • copy, resell or redistribute Hedroom or its process library, apart from the open-source parts under their own licenses;
  • use Hedroom on a Mac you are not allowed to administer;
  • use Hedroom, or anything you learn about it, to harm other people or their computers.

If you find a security problem, please tell us first. The security page says how.

7. You stay in control, and you are responsible for your choices

Hedroom explains and asks. It does not quit an app, pause an app, move a file or change a setting unless you click for it, or you turned on a rule yourself. The safety checks, the Trash and the receipts are there to reduce risk, and they cannot remove it. Pausing or quitting an app can lose work that is not saved. Moving files to the Trash is reversible until you empty it. Please keep a backup of anything you cannot lose.

8. No warranty

Hedroom is provided "as is" and "as available". We work hard to make it do what the website says, and we publish what we measure. We cannot promise that it will be free of bugs, that it will work on every Mac, that a fix will make your Mac faster or that a measurement is exact. Where Hedroom cannot measure an effect, its receipt says so. We do not give any other promise, express or implied, about quality, fitness for a particular purpose or that it will not infringe anyone's rights, except where the law of your country says you have rights that cannot be waived.

9. Limits on our liability

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, such as lost data, lost work, lost profit or the cost of replacing a Mac. For any claim about Hedroom, our total liability is limited to the amount you paid for your license. This does not limit liability that the law does not allow us to limit, such as for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

10. Changes

  • To the software. We may change, add or remove features in an update. Changes are listed in the changelog.
  • To these terms. If we change them in a way that matters, we will say so on this page and in the release notes, and the changes apply to updates you install after that. If you do not agree, you can stop using Hedroom cancel, and ask for a refund if you are still inside the 30 days of a payment.

11. Ending the license

  • You can stop at any time. Uninstalling is in Settings, and it can free your license slot. Uninstalling does not cancel your subscription. Cancel it on the billing page first, or it renews.
  • We may end a license that has been fully refunded, charged back or disputed, or used against these terms, for example by sharing the key beyond the Macs your plan covers. When a license is ended, Pro stops at the next license check, rules pause, and your data stays on your Mac. Monitoring and the other free parts keep working.

12. Governing law

To be set with counsel. The country or state whose law applies, and where a dispute would be heard, are not decided yet. This page will not be final until they are.

13. Your data

What Hedroom sends and stores is described on the privacy page, which is part of how we ask you to read these terms.

Monitoring is free, with no card and no account. Pro, with a 7-day free trial, opens with the first signed build. If it cannot show you a measurable difference, do not keep it.
